Il colore non è solo e semplicemente

una pellicola che riflette la luce come nel

caso della stampa e della carta da para-

ti. La natura stessa del meccanismo che

genera la percezione del colore, ovvero

l’assorbimento di determinate lunghezze

d’onda e la rifrazione di altre, fa sì che la

superficie non possa mai dimenticare di

essere anche materia.

Nella decorazione parietale, e nello

specifico di nuovo nella carta da parati,

alcune gamme rendono particolarmente

evidente la trama stessa della superficie

cromatica spingendosi quasi alle soglie

della matericità. Chi non ricorda il Ter-

ra di Siena, che sicuramente nel nome

racconta la sua origine tecnica, ma che

d’altra parte indica anche la capacitò di

evocare una particolare caratteristica di

stampo ambientale.

In questa palette di colori l’ammicca-

mento è a materiali o fenomeni naturali:

la luce del tramonto, l’osso del carapace

delle tartarughe, la sabbia vulcanica.

Ci stanno allora Animal Echo e anche

Iconography, ancorché passibili di un in-

tervento umano che però sembra rispet-

tare la tessitura di superficie dei materiali

naturali. E ci stanno le tracce, lasciate

appunto sulla materia, di Sketchy. Ancor

di più è Patterned a portarci in territori

nei quali si accenna alla consistenza della

materia stessa, elaborata, riscaldata, trat-

tata con indubbi riferimenti allo spessore

della terza dimensione.

Colour is more than just a simple film

which reflects light, as is the case of print-

ing and wallpaper. The very nature of the

mechanism which generates the perception

of colour, namely the absorption of deter-

mined wave lengths and the refraction of

others, allows that surfaces can never forget

that they are also material.

In wall decorations and yet again,

specifically in wallpaper, some ranges em-

phasise the very pattern of colour surfaces,

almost transcending the boundaries of

material quality. Sienna springs to mind,

its name surely indicative of its technical

origins as well as its capacity to evoke a

particular, environmental characteristic.

This palette alludes to natural materi-

als or phenomena: the light of the sunset, a

turtle shell, volcanic sands.

The right place for Animal Echo as well

as Iconography, despite being susceptible

of human interventions, they do respect

the weaving of natural material surfaces. In

this sense, there is also room for the trac-

es left on material by Sketchy. Patterned,

more than others, takes us to lands which

allude to the consistency of material itself,

elaborated, heated up, treated with unam-

biguous reference to the thickness of the

third-dimension.
